Espresso House and Oatly extend cooperation

Oatly's oat drink is now served in all Espresso House cafés in the Nordic countries and Germany. In recent years, guest demand for plant-based beverages has increased significantly, particularly oat beverages, and now more Espresso House guests can choose to try Oatly's oat beverage in their hot or cold beverage while having coffee. In June, Espresso House achieved its target of 50% of the menu being available as plant-based and is now mapping its carbon footprint under the GHG Protocol [1] with the aim of setting scientific targets to reduce its carbon footprint.

In 2019, 8% of the café chain's guests asked for a plant-based product in their coffee or espresso drink, in 2021 the figure was 14% and by the end of June 2022 it was 17%. So more and more Espresso House guests are choosing plant-based products in their drinks, and of these, oat drink is the most popular milk alternative.

- We want to offer our guests the best and are therefore extremely pleased to be able to deepen our partnership with Oatly and serve their oat drink in all markets. Oatly is a global and well-known brand with 25 years of expertise in oat beverages, which strengthens Espresso House's plant-based and sustainable selection to guests, an obvious choice for us," says Pontus Wretman, Chief Commercial Officer, Espresso House Group.

Together with Oatly, Espresso House can drive the trend towards more sustainable food and beverage habits and inspire more guests to discover plant-based options. As part of Espresso House's sustainability efforts, the company has set a target of 50% of its menu to be available as plant-based, a goal that was achieved in all markets in June this year. In 2021, Espresso House began mapping its carbon footprint according to the GHG Protocol. In 2022, the mapping will lead to a series of decisions aimed at setting science-based targets to reduce the company's carbon footprint.

- We are proud that Espresso House wants to deepen its cooperation with us. The company is the market-leading coffee chain in the Nordic region with approximately 130,000 guests daily in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Germany. For us at Oatly, the collaboration is extremely valuable because together we can meet so many people and help them make choices that reduce their carbon footprint," says Jonas Persson Follin, Nordic Director at Oatly.
