Espresso House & Maskrosbarn win Stenbecks-priset
Espresso House supports Maskrosbarn in their important work with children of parents who abuse them, suffer from mental illness, or expose them to violence. Last year, Espresso House supported Maskrosbarn with over 600,000 SEK. Together with our partners, we were now awarded in the category Best Business Partnership, as Giva Sweden announced the winners of the Stenbeckspriset 2022.
- We are very grateful that Espresso House has chosen to support the children we work for in relation to the cause of fighting loneliness. Half a million children have parents with addiction issues or mental illnesses and many of them feel alone in their situation. It is important to break down taboos and spread knowledge, so that children and young people dare to speak up and can get support in their situations, says Marlene Lundli, Communications Manager at Maskrosbarn.
In 2022, employees at Espresso House have attended lectures to spread knowledge, give hope and inform about the work and support of Maskrosbarn. Children that take part in Maskrosbarn’s activities have been invited to internships at Espresso House and learned more about working life and how to write a CV. Maskrosbarn has also held lectures together with ambassadors at selected Coffee Shops for Espresso House’s guests – all to counteract stigma and loneliness, increase knowledge about the life as a “Maskrosbarn” (dandelion child) and to point out that there is support available.
In December, Espresso House donated 1 SEK per brewed coffee sold to Maskrosbarn, as part of Espresso House's long-term initiative CupTogether, which is all about inviting people to meet over a cup of coffee and to fight loneliness, one cup at a time.
- At Espresso House, we are strongly committed to the young generations. We employ many young people in our Coffee Shops and every day we meet children and young people who visit us in their spare time. Some of them sit alone, stay long, do their homework, and don't go home like their friends. Loneliness and the feeling of being left out can come in many different forms in our society and we feel great compassion for the children that Maskrosbarn supports," says Stina Möller, Country Manager for Espresso House Sweden.
The jury's motivation
The collaboration between Maskrosbarn and Espresso House is based on their common target group of young people and is a shining example of how charity work and fundraising can be integrated. The message that there is support but also hope for a bright future when one's home conditions are difficult is widely communicated both internally to the young employees and externally to guests. The result is greater awareness, increased revenue, and a great sense of pride among both the organizations’ participants and the companies’ employees.
